Lobby Day at the North Carolina General Assembly

The Susan G. Komen NC Triangle Advocacy Alliance painted the NC General Assembly PINK. We lobbied with the American Cancer Society for House Bill 160, which allows North Carolina taxpayers to voluntarily donate all or partial tax refunds to the North Carolina Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (NCBCCCP). This program provides breast and cervical screening and diagnostic testing for low-income, uninsured, and underinsured women. The HB 160 is the only current method that will allow additional funding for NCBCCCP. As advocates, it was our job to convince NC Senators to vote in favor of HB 160. The NCBCCCP is essential for North Carolina women because it promotes early detection and ultimately makes survival a more promising possibility.
