This Memorial Day Weekend, my husband and I are thankful and appreciative of all those who have given their all. It is an honor for us to travel and meet the outstanding individuals representing each branch of the military. When we are at the race track, our military friends who come to visit look to the NASCAR Drivers in awe, but the reality is everyone in NASCAR – fans, teams, sponsors – we are in awe of those who give their lives and livelihood for our freedom.

As Mrs. North Carolina International, I am honored to have met many members of the military at Richmond International Raceway and also at Darlington Speedway. Seeing the smiles on their faces and talking with them about racing feels as if for a brief moment all their struggles and challenges, physical or other, are non-existent. And for some, being at a NASCAR race is their version of Disney World.

Personally, my husband and I have many close friends and co-workers who have lost their lives fighting for our freedom. While we sacrifice spending the holiday weekend with our families, we celebrate with our racing family this weekend. The passion and honor represented during pre-race ceremonies at Charlotte Motor Speedway always gives me chills and reminds us that tomorrow is not promised.

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend. Remember to embrace every moment you have with loved ones. God Bless!
