Samartian's Purse is an organization the serves church's worldwide helping others while sharing God's love through His Son, Jesus Christ. For over 40 years they go around the world help the poor, sick and suffering, reaching out to hurt people with food, medical attention and even have emergency relief programs. They help the children get their education, food, clothing and shelter programs- to let them know they are still being thought of. Give Kids A Smile Day!

This weekend I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Charlotte motor Speedway for the "Give Kids a Smile" program. Where 3m ESPE, the American Dental Association, Henry Schein Cares, and Speedway Children's Charities hosted FREE youth Dental clinics!

This was a great first time experience for the "Give Kids a Smile Program" We had the opportunity to screen over 200 children. The Screenings consisted of x-rays that we took and then placed on USB wrist bands, we also placed sealants, fluoride varnish treatments, and had a educational portion for children to be educated about the importance of oral Health!

DID YOU KNOW...Today 1/3 of children in North Carolina are without dental insurance, and the resulting untreated tooth decay means they're unable to eat, sleep or pay attention in class because of the pain.

Thats why Greg Biffle is teaming up with the American Dental Association "Give Kids A Smile" program to put oral health on the fast track for kids throughout the Carolina's!!!!

In 2007 my Mom was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer, since that time I have made it my mission to help find a cure not only for her but for the millions of other people around the world affect by this horrible disease. She is now 4 years cancer free, however raising funds toward additional reasearh is paramount to her success! But because of early detection she is a survivor today!! Over 192,000 new breast cancer cases will be diagnosed this year. With early detection survival rate is much higher. Continue to support Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink in the month of October!!

57th Mullet Festival

This past weekend was Swanboro's 57th Mullet Festival. Before the festival started they had the Mullet Festival parade which I had the honor to take part of! It was so much fun since this is my hometown! I'm a part of Swansboro High School Cheer squad and got to meet up with the girls before they got ready to go march in the parade! The festival and parade was very nice! It was such a great weekend for it!

Cleveland County Fair and Miss SC International 2011

It's been another busy week for Miss SC International 2011! This week I was invited to help host a cheerleading competition at the Cleveland County Fair in Shelby, NC.

As much fun as it was to be the emcee, the best parts involved food and hugging various characters and public figures.

My co-host and I had worked together on the Cleveland County Dancing with the Stars event that benefitted Communities in Schools.

I was fed some great fair food for free since the owner of the food stand got to have his picture taken with me.

I also met the Cleveland County Sherriff! He didn't arrest me but congratulated me on my title.

The best part of the night was when I was given two free tickets to the fair for later that week by the fair organizer and management! I put those tickets to very good use on Friday night. Next week, I will be speaking to the Shelby Rotary about my platform. I continue to enjoy my time and work very hard with my crown. This has by far been the best year of my life!

An Amazing September!!!!!

Wow, what an amazing September I have had as Miss South Carolina International 2011!!! First, I had the opportunity to help Communities in Schools as they held a benefit fund raiser on September 17th called Dancing with the Cleveland County Stars. I was able to emcee the entire night and was a guest VIP. Watching the dancers and interacting with the judges and audience was right up my alley! Communities in Schools is an organization that helps students stay in school to finish their high school education through after school programs. I will be speaking at some of their schools this year and cannot wait to share my message to those with learning disabilities.

I also read the book When Donkeys Fly to a 3rd grade class at Union Elementary School. This was such a great experience because the kids were so receptive and asked so many great questions. Then the teacher asked the children what skills would be needed to be Miss South Carolina International because they were learning about jobs that week. My good friend Anna Wehr was their student teacher and it was also great to see her!

The very next day, I was honored to model for Reign Fine Apparel at the NC/SC USA Pageant Forum. I modeled an interview outfit and had a blast seeing old friends and people I love!

Then the high point was this week when I was a special guest for Charlotte Fashion Week hosted by Plitz Fashion Marketing. The week began at a VIP reception at the Hotel Sierra on Wednesday, September 21st. There was a silent auction and fund raiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Next, I arrived at the Epicenter in Uptown Charlotte on Friday, September 23rd around 4:30 pm. I began to do my interviews with the media and press when suddenly, I was pulled to model for designer Megan Mew of Mew Designs. I quickly got my hair done and make-up completed by Dolce Lusso Salon and Spa and went to try on the outfit that I would walk in. I was so excited because her clothes are really fun and flirty and she was so great as a person. She comes from Charleston, SC and was happy to have me model. So much so, that when we all came out at the end, she wanted me to wear my sash!

The experience of being interviewed by such media as Charlotte Magazine, Sheen, Wink Women's Magazine, the Charlotte Fashion Week Backhouse Commentator and many others was really rewarding. On Saturday, I did more interviews and mingled with guests taking pictures and talking. I had the pleasure of speaking to hostess, Samantha Busch, wife of race car driver Kyle Busch. She is so sweet and a really sincere person. I loved her. The fashions were really amazing especially the last ones by Cory Couture. I felt like I was in Paris or Milan! But my favorites were Navy and Pearls and of course Mew Designs.

Overall, I have to say, I haven't had this much fun in a very long time if ever! I am so blessed to have this title and to have met so many fabulous people! I was treated like royalty! I'd like to thank Anthony Simons and Kayla Rose of Plitz Fashion Marketing for giving me such an opportunity!

FORT MACON

This summer Miss Teen North Carolina International went to Beaufort North Carolina to visit Fort Macon. Fort Macon is made up of total brick and stone, armed with 54 heavy cannons, and has 26 vaulted rooms, where in each room you can visit and learn more about what went on at Fort Macon. During the 18-19th century region, Beaufort was one of the many places known to be attacked. The Civil War began on April 12, 1861. IT was then attacked later in 1862, where it then fell back in to the hands of the Union. Fort Macon was named after Nathaniel Macon. Fort Macon is surrounded on 3 sides by water, the Atlantic Ocean, Beaufort Inlet, and Bouge Sound. Its sits right where there is a public access to the great waves, warm sun and sand of the beautiful Crystal Coast! Fort Macon is a great place for the family of any ages, fun and a learning experience!

Hurricane Irene hits the East Coast, home of Miss Teen NC Intl

Saturday August 27, 2011 Hurricane Irene hits the East Coast. It hit where I live at a Cat 2 but was coming at us as a Cat 3. There was 4 deaths in North Carolina, due to Irene. Even though there is alot of damage, flooding, and even no power for a few days, the preparation for this hurricane sure did pay off! 10 states on the East Coast got hit by Hurricane Irene. Delaware and Virginia reported that Hurricane Irene turned into a Tornado once it got to them. Swansboro, which is a couple minutes from where I live still has no power, but that's not stopping businesses from going to work! The Bouge Inlet Pier on Emerald Isle collapsed during the storm. Hoping everyone who got hit from this storm is doing well, our thoughts & prayers go out to them!

Miss South Carolina International to MC Dancing with the Stars!!!!

Chelsea Rae Gregory, Miss South Carolina International 2011, will be the MC for Dancing with the Cleveland County Stars that will benefit Communities in Schools of Cleveland County, NC. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2011 and will be held at the Don Gibson Theater in downtown Shelby, NC. Doors will open at 5:30 for VIP ticket holders which cost $35 and the competition will begin at 7:00 pm for regular ticket holders which costs $20. Tickets can be purchased through the Don Gibson Theater in Shelby.

Stars that will be dancing this year are: Carol and Lynn Kelly, Debbie Godwin and Stephen Price, Donna Hule-Brooks and James Brooks, Evelyn and Keith Kiser, Evelyn Woods and Robert Hoyle, Jeanette and Lamont Reeves, Louann and Jamie Davis and Tasha Brown and Billy Peeler.

Communities in Schools of Cleveland County is an organization that surrounds students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

"The Cleveland Challenge, a group of community leaders dedicated to establishing “community excellence,” brought the Communities In Schools model to Cleveland County in 1991, as one answer to the critical concern for education. Beginning with students in 1992, Communities In Schools of Cleveland County has grown from three elementary sites to eight elementary school sites, four middle school sites, and multiple community programs. The goal of Communities In Schools of Cleveland County is to provide a continuous network of support for students from birth through graduation and beyond in order to help students be successful in school and in life."

"I am so excited to be a partner with this organization as it will afford me the ability to go into schools and speak to teens and children that have attention deficit disorder." Chelsea is a national affiliate for CHADD, which is the organization that supports those with Attention Deficit Disorder. She has created her own program Re-Focus: ADHD Awareness. Growing up, Chelsea was challenged with ADHD and fought to get through school and into college. Now a college senior at Gardner-Webb University, Chelsea will be graduating in May of 2012 with a BA in Communications. She is also a mentor for the Gardner-Webb University Noel Special Needs Program. Her website, www.misssouthcarolinainternational.com tells her story and gives those affected by ADHD practical tips that have helped her succeed and achieve her dreams.

Great things in store!!

Wow! School has started and I can already feel the blessing that are coming my way this fall! I have had 3 significant things happen this week that I would like to inform you about! First, I had found a new cleansing product and I might try it out! It is called Isagenics. It is a cleansing program that consists of milkshakes and other supplements. I have heard it has changed many lives so check it out!!

Second, this week the mentors for Gardner-Webb University's learning disability program met with the freshman for an orientation! It was very exciting and the program is busier than ever! We got 60 and counting new students who requested services of the learning disability program! Our orientation was very successful and we even gave them tours around campus.

The last thing that happened this week, that I am ECSTATIC about, was meeting with the Communities In Schools program in Cleveland County! I am going to be judging a Dancing with the Stars event that will benefit the program! Communities in Schools is a drop out prevention program and I look forward to continue working with them so that I can help keep students with ADHD off the streets! They also told me they would be able to get me in to speak at schools in the area! I am SO excited about working with them!!!!

Summer vacation... FINALLY!

Now that it has been about 3 weeks since Nationals in Chicago, I am finally rested and ready to keep updating! It has been a whirlwind since the pageant, even though it was supposed to be a sudden halt into nothingness!

Nationals was a BLAST! And I will always remember the experiences I had there. Miss NC and I had gotten very close and even had a relaxing weekend 2 weeks later! Since the pageant, I have been on vacation with my family in Las Vegas. This was fun, but not relaxing... at all! I needed a beach on a serene island after being in heels and happy for a whole week! I even spent the entire day after arriving home from a long day at the airport, in my bed. It was AWESOME! I also spent the last 3 weeks enjoying all of my favorite foods, but now it is back to the grind of making sure I am eating right.

I am currently getting ready to head back to college for my senior year! I can't believe it. And what better way to spend it than as Miss South Carolina?

Backing up a week, Miss North Carolina, Brittney Clark came to my house for the weekend last weekend to visit! We had an awesome time! We got feathers in our hair on Friday and went to an event, then I showed her how to ride horses on Saturday and we took a nice boat ride on the lake! Sunday was a fun day of shopping, even though it only lasted for an hour.

Monday I am meeting with an organization that I will be helping with in September. So look for more updates soon!

Today the 41st Annual Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival was held. The Shrimp Festival has been going on since 1970! CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR MRS NORTH CAROLINA INTERNATIONAL JANET BOLIN FOR WINNING MRS INTERNATIONAL!!! I know she will have a exciting year ahead of her!! Last week was such a blast in Chicago with all of the other queens and our wonderful director JOY!!!!! All of the other contestants were so nice! One day we went to the John Hancock Observatory, the Zoo, Boys & Girls Club where we had the opportunity to do crafts with kids. Later that night we went to a Princess Ball where little girls came dressed up as their favorite Disney princess!! We had dinners, photo shoots, and lots and lots of rehearsals!! Congrats to all of the Top 10 ladies including our own Miss North Carolina International 2011 Brittney Clark!! A quick report from Nationals. Interview well went yesterday. We had the rest of the day off and went to bling street with Joy. Then we came back and got ready to watch the Teen Preliminaries. They did great! Avery looked super in her emerald green gown and Morgan rocked the stage in her fun fashion.

Today we went downtown to the John Hancock Building. The Observatory was amazing.

After we left the observatory, we visited the zoo where we had many photo ops and autograph signings. Children are most enchanted with all of the queens and princesses running around.

We left the zoo and got to the Girls and Boys Club of Chicago to eat lunch provided by the International Pageant System and the Double Tree Hotel. We ate with the children and then made crowns with them. It was such fun and a blessing to see these girls light up when they came into the gym.

This evening we had our group photo, dinner and then off to hear a motivational speaker. All in all it was a great day here at the Miss and Teen International Pageant!

Wow I cant believe Chicago is finally here!!! I couldn't be any more blessed to have this opportunity to compete for the Miss International Title! My national platform the Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children foundation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and I have worked so hard traveling around the world spreading the word about access to care for all children and the importance of getting your child in the dentist office when the first tooth erupts in order to prevent tooth decay!!! Over this past 5 months as Miss North Carolina I have had so many life changing experiences traveling around the world and impacting so many children's lives and i cannot even begin to imagine how many more lives could be changed with the Title of Miss International! Oral health is central to overall health and it is crucial that everyone has access to dental care across the world! This week is going to be an absolute blast and i cannot wait to see the outcome of the pageant! Thanks to EVERYONE for all the support and i cant PROMISE that i will bring home the crown but i can promise you one things and thats that i am going to do my best!

I have arrived in Chicago after a 12+ car ride to get here! I am planted in the Chicago, DoubleTree Hotel for 1.5 weeks! Course first stop MAC PRO STORE...ONLY one in the Mid WEST?! Like a KID in the CANDY STORE......
After getting up at 4am, and hitting the bed at 12:00, I was up again at 5:30 Chicago time to pow wow with the ladies before INTERVIEW!! I Went to see Janet at 6am, she was bright eyed and ready to go, smiling from ear to ear. She looked beautiful!
Next stop Elizabeth. I was doing hair and makeup for Elizabeth. I hope she does not mind the before and after's but Too much fun to resist!

We are continuing to have loads of fun!

A Huge Thank You!

God has blessed me so much! I never would have guessed so many amazing opportunities would come my way when I was crowned Miss South Carolina International 2011 in March. Since that day, my life has forever changed beginning with the ability to reach other people and touch the lives of those who have a loved one who also suffers from Attention Deficit Disorder. My first goal was to become a spokesperson or national affiliate for CHADD which is the organization that I have volunteered for since 2008 with my first pageant. CHADD supports parents, people and educators who deal with Attention Deficit Disorder. I was awarded the opportunity to use CHADD for my National Platform and have even been asked to speak at their National Conference in Orlando, Florida in November.

Once I had my affiliation with CHADD, I began speaking to anyone and everyone who would listen to the message I have which is that people with ADHD are suffering from a real disorder. It is usually accompanied by other learning disabilities and can severely affect daily life for those who have it.

My CHADD affiliation and Mentoring position with Gardner-Webb University's Noel Special Needs Program have kept me busy. I have spoken to The Lake Wylie Master Mind Group, at the Girl's Voice Conference for the Mental Health Association of Central Carolina and have raised money through a car wash, an appearance at the What a Girl Wants Event and our Send Off Event at the Fort Mill Golf Club in Fort Mill, SC. I have also visited the children of Palmetto Children's Hospital, read to the children of Baxter Village at their Easter Egg Hunt, and have rounded up over 100 donated prom and pageant gowns that will go to patients of Levine Children's Hospital's prom hosted by the Sandbox Organization in September.

I am also partnering with the producers of Charlotte Fashion Week, helping to do anything from judge a model competition to attend various meetings and events that support the upcoming week. I have been a guest at the Miss Motor Speedway National Pageant in Kentucky, thrown the first pitch at the Charlotte Knights Baseball game, appeared at the Bobcats Basketball Game during Nascar week, I figured that I have volunteered over 190 hours and averaged 1 to 2 appearances a week since my crowning. And I have loved every single minute of it. I have had press coverage that has been outstanding. Especially since each story has highlighted my desire to make changes in our educational system where Attention Deficit Disorder is concerned.

So many people have helped me along the way. They all deserve a huge THANK YOU! Starting with one of my favorite people and pageant coaches, Chelsea Cooley Altman, Miss USA 2005. She has been a role model and inspiration. I want to also thank Jaime Converse Estrada for all of my pep talks, my unbelievable wardrobe and shopping sprees! Thank you to my director Joy Pfister. Without her, none of us would be ready for nationals! She has been a coach, a director and a friend. And all of my wonderful photographers like Robert Christopher, Jeanna Beasley, Clay Spann and Jonathan Carter. I clearly have a budding modeling career because of them. I must also thank Suzy Bootz who consulted with me via the phone. I only wish I lived closer to Dallas so that I could work with her even more. A big thank you to Ashlei Bradway, my hair stylist and friend at Dolce Lusso. Thank you to my friends at Belk's Clinique counter! I'm sure I am missing some people and if I am it is only because there are so many great people in my life it's hard to remember them all at this moment. It's probably because I'm a bit distracted!

But I do have to thank 3 more people. My dad, my mom and my brother who have supported, encouraged and helped me realize this dream in such a short period of time! I have matured, improved, focused and realized such growth that would not have come from any other opportunity. And the best part is that I am not even close to being done. I have a lot more that I want to do! So, be prepared to hear more in the coming months. And for now, as I leave for my national pageant I ask God to help me focus on what is truly important. Allowing His light to shine through me.

Chicago, Here We Come!

Well, we're off!! Months and months of preparations and planning all packed up in my SUV and ready to go! This is the week where all the skipped desserts, extra runs, and hours of work on TOP of my "real" job pay off! I am excited to get to share this week with my incredible director Joy, as well as my sister queen, Mrs. North Carolina International, Janet Bolin. Not to mention my AMAZING husband who will be running his empire from Chicago this week in order to support me, and just collapsed into bed after a 12-hr drive to get me here safe, sound, and with all my miscellaneous bags and luggage. :) Regardless of what happens this week, I am an incredibly blessed wife and woman. I will do my best to keep my blog updated this week, although I am not sure I can promise that!

Fairy Godmother Project of Music City Donates Over 100 Gowns!

I am busily getting ready for Nationals. I cannot believe it is here already but I am prepared and excited to get there and meet everyone.

This past several weeks, I have been working out with Victor Sanders, getting my tan on at Palm Beach Tan and had my hair done. I got to spend the day with Joy in Richmond which was huge fun! We went out to lunch (the best part) and got to meet her dogs and husband and son. It was a short trip but a good one.

I've also been working with Jaime Estrada of Reign Fine Apparel and Chelsea Cooley Altman (Miss USA 2005) in order to get my interviewing skills down. And of course, we packed and sent my wardrobe (or part of it) last week. The best part of that is that we had to use Cheetah Duct Tape to close up the box. I bet the hotel will get a laugh out of that!

As for my titleholder work, I was so excited and thrilled to have the Fairy Godmother Project of Music City donate over 100 gowns to one of my partner organizations. The Sandbox and I collected the gowns for a "prom" they are hosting for Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte in September. The children/patients who will be attending are those who most likely missed their own proms because they were receiving treatment for their illnesses. When I was told they needed over 100 gowns, I was a little overwhelmed. But, I started out on the Miss International website and found the Donate a Dress organization. They help pull together projects like this all over the country. I can't thank the Fairy Godmother Project of Music City enough for helping us with this worthy event. I am hoping to assist in a fashion show in August to help raise additional funds that will pay for tuxedos, flowers, food, a DJ, etc.

I am also working with the Plitz Fashion Marketing Group who will be holding Charlotte Fashion Week in September. Kayla Rose and Anthony Simon are the movers and shakers and I am very blessed to have connected with them. On Friday night, I attended a Pre-Fashion Week mixer at Suite in the Epi Center in Charlotte. That was fun!

Well, until Nationals are over, I will be preparing and resting up for the busy week. I want to thank Joy Pfister for being the best director! She has truly helped us get to where we need to be and I believe the Carolina girls will rock Chicago!!!!! Best of luck to Janet and Elizabeth this week. I love you both. You are such great role models. And to Avery, Morgan and Brittany next week! Love you all.

Today, I take a moment to reflect, looking back over the past 17 weeks as Mrs. North Carolina International 2011. The success of my activities promoting The NASCAR Foundation is summarized in numbers, but more importantly memories I will cherish for a lifetime. The numbers add up to traveling 13,000+ miles, covering 11 states, 108 volunteer hours and helping to raise over $100,000. More importantly, I made a difference.

Fifteen years ago when I competed in the Miss America system, I didn’t fully realize how inspiring a sparkly crown can be to others. For the nay-sayers, they will always have a closed heart and mind. For the rest of us to believe pageants provide a venue to achieve personal development and life skills - you can relate.

As a business professional, working tirelessly to climb the corporate ladder, the life experience of being Mrs. North Carolina International has given me more than I could have ever hoped. I created my own website, a skill that I would have otherwise hired a 3rd party agency to handle for me. I created a marketing plan for myself to promote The NASCAR Foundation which meant I was taking on the role as project manager and talent – usually I’m just crafting the plan and relying on someone else to be the “talent.” I also was a slave to myself to uphold my word, which to me means everything. My word, my promise, was to promote The NASCAR Foundation and raise awareness for the charities who benefit, promote volunteerism and also the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award to be a larger voice to champions of the community who tirelessly provide support and encouragement to children so they can live happier, healthier lives.

The opportunity available as Mrs. International gives a strong female leader the ability to continue to make a positive impact – on a global scale. I compare it to NASCAR, in the fact the NASCAR races are broadcast to over 150 countries in 30 different languages. This equates to more than 50 million eyeballs. As Mrs. International, that same reach is just a start.

Ten fun things about Janet Bolin, Mrs. North Carolina International 2011

1. Janet has torn down and rebuilt a Tremec TR-3550 transmission. (Thank you Jon Vieth!)

2. Janet can affix the crown to her head without a mirror. (And, while seated on top of a horse thanks to my friends at Rising Hope Farms.)

3. Janet has taken hot laps, in the rain, at the Dearborn Proving Grounds in the Ford Racing performance cars…driven by professional race car driver, Matt Kenseth. (Thanks for not killing me, Matt.)

4. Chip and Janet have a room in their home called the "princess room" which is filled with the limited edition, holiday Barbie ornaments. This is a tradition which started for both of them in which their mothers would give them a new Christmas ornament each year. Janet’s ornament collection just happen to all be "Barbie" ornaments, so they decided to display them in their living room and renamed it the "Princess" room, complete with a wine cooler.

5. This past year, Janet marked her 13th year experiencing the Daytona 500 at the World Center of Racing, Daytona International Speedway.

6. The label, Team Chip and Janet, started because both of them work full time jobs, and they are their own support "team." They even share kitchen duties - he cooks, I wash the dishes. But, when I bake, he gets to wash the dishes.

7. Janet has been an AFAA-certified fitness instructor for 15 years and is looking to take that hobby to the next step by becoming an AFAA National Workshop Trainer and secure her Jukari certification.

8. While Janet is originally from Ohio, Chip is from South Carolina which means Janet takes a lot of guff when football season comes around, especially this year.

9. One of Janet’s favorite things is to bake yellow cupcakes with buttercream frosting. (Chip like’s these too, but prefers oatmeal raisin cookies.)

10. Janet’s first racing experience came when she was a preliminary winner in the Miss Ohio Scholarship Pageant and made an appearance as Miss Maple City at the Summit Motorsports Park (formerly Norwalk Raceway Park) during their Night Under Fire event. She was given a behind the scenes tour and was intrigued by the design, engineering and excitement for both the competitors and the fans. The rest is history!

There is still time!

Identifying Champions at the race track is easy. Finding them outside of the track takes a little more effort. Please help The NASCAR Foundation by identifying those community leaders who make a difference in childrens lives. The deadline to nominate someone you know for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award is Monday, July 18. Learn more below or at NASCAR.COM/Unites.

ABOUT THE AWARD

As part of The NASCAR Foundation’s new NASCAR Unites campaign, one outstanding fan will be awarded the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award for his or her commitment to community. The award will be announced during the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion's Week in Las Vegas in December 2011.

ELIGIBILITY

The award is open to individual residents of the United States, aged 16 years or older. Applicants must be a NASCAR fan and have made a significant impact on the lives of children through volunteerism or charitable work during the last five years. For this award, “volunteerism” is defined as voluntary action in service to others and the community. Individuals who receive compensation to perform charitable work – volunteering, fundraising, etc. – are ineligible for the award. NASCAR and NASCAR Foundation employees are ineligible for the award.

THE PROCESS

From April 30 – July 18, 2011 individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by a friend, family member or nonprofit organization where the individual volunteers. Applicants will be narrowed to a pool of four (4) finalists who will be announced in October 2011. From October – November, the finalists will be featured in an online vote and text-to-vote campaign with NASCAR fans voting for the volunteer they would like to receive the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award.

THE AWARD

From the pool of applicants, four (4) finalists will be selected. The text-to-vote campaign will narrow the pool to a single award-winner. Prizes are as follows:

Three (3) Finalists will receive:

-A $25,000 donation from The NASCAR Foundation to a children’s charity of their choice (must be a public registered, 501c3 tax-exempt organization in the United States).

-An expense-paid trip* to the NASCAR race weekend in October 2011 as part of the award recognition process and in recognition of the person as a finalist for the award.

-An all expense-paid trip* to the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion's Week in Las Vegas in December 2011 (finalists may each bring one guest), as well as a child (and child’s parent/guardian) that benefit from the finalist’s designated charity.

One (1) Winner will receive:

-An all expense-paid trip* to the NASCAR race weekend in October 2011 as part of the award recognition process and in recognition of the person as a finalist for the award.

I thought it would be fun to share one thing my husband and I have in common – our love for great food. We believe it is best to have what we call “romantic date night” at least once a month, if not once a week. As most of you know, we travel frequently all across the USA and so I thought I’d share the top-10 places we love to have 'romantic date night' when we aren’t at home. Think of this as our own version of Diner’s, Drive-In's and Dive's.

10. MICHIGAN - Fricker's. Comfort food, hometown atmosphere and cool people. This regional chain has locations that cross the border into northwestern Ohio. The chicken chunks, hot, are juicy and have just enough spice. I also recommend their amazingly tasty curly fries with cheese sauce. (And if you are really hungry, their toasted ravioli with marinara sauce is also WONDERFUL.)

9. ALABAMA - Damn Yankees. Southern cookin’ with a smile.

8. TEXAS – Prairie House. Hidden and off the beaten path, this local restaurant is worth visiting every time you are headed to Texas Motor Speedway. Home cooked meals that you can smell for miles that are healthy and delicious.

7. INDIANA - Dunaway's. Historic, classy, elegant and mouth-watering and sitting on the rooftop gives you a beautiful view of the city.

6. SOUTH CAROLINA – The River House at Palmetto Bluff. A beautiful way to start or end the day with great food and a relaxing view of the May River.

5. CALIFORNIA - Scoma's. We love seafood and dream about the next time we get to go there for dinner.

4. OHIO - Eddie Merlot's at Polaris. Five stars all around for customer service, atmosphere, décor and food. (Ask for Tom.)

3. GEORGIA – Bone’s in Buckhead. This local restaurant is classic, old-south style with dark, hardwood comfort and simply amazing food. (Be sure to pack a sport coat as it is required.)

2. NORTH CAROLINA - Flemings Steakhouse in Uptown Charlotte. This place always exceeds our expectations and is great for a couple or a group.

1. FLORIDA - Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa. If the melt-in-your-mouth steaks aren’t enough, they have a separate dessert room to seal the deal on one of the best romantic date night restaurants of all time. (At least in our opinion.)

Since being crowned Mrs. North Carolina International 2011, I have had the opportunity to travel over 13,000 miles promoting The NASCAR Foundation as one of their spokesmen. I made hundreds of new friends during my 108 wonderful hours volunteering with The NASCAR Foundation. And, I am thrilled I was able to help collect over $100,000 from generous donors. My initial goal was to help raise $25,000. I believe once a goal is met, you aspire to set another…and so goes my quest!

Summer Fun!

Just an update on my life! Joy has done such a wonderful job with our countdown to nationals! I loved seeing everyone's responses. Currently I am preping for nationals and it is SO close! One exciting thing I have done recently is speak at the Girl Voice Conference in Charlotte for girls who are at risk. I loved being at this event because they had some awesome workshops for the girls to attend and then a luncheon and fashion show. I was enabled the opportunity to speak at the luncheon about my platform and hopefully reach out to some one in the audience. My main message to the girls was that they can succeed. I think this was very important for them to hear because they are at such a prime age where their decisions will affect the rest of their life. Whether they have a learning disability or not, hopefully my message was helpful.

After I spoke, I actually had a few people come up to me while I was signing autographs and tell me that they had a child with ADHD. This was such a rewarding feeling for me because this has always been my dream. I was able to give advice to the moms and speaking with them about their struggles.

The next thing I did was the Tega Cay 4th of July Parade! This was a BLAST! I felt so special and beautiful. I got to wish everyone in the town a Happy 4th of July and connect with the crowd because it was a slow moving parade.

We made a few friends as well! Our friends at the Tega "Cro-Cay" club and Mrs Strawberry Festival!

The parade was so fun to do because I have never been in a parade before. I am so thankful for this opportunity. I also did a meet and greet after the parade. A lot of little girls came up to me and were confused but it made my day to know that they got to meet a queen. Lots of them said "look mommy a princess!" I told all of them they are beautiful. This is how much it means to me to be a queen.

Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed? 
I sleep with my closet doors closed because I don't like to see in my closet at night. I make sure if they are opened when I go to bed, I check inside my closet before turning out the lights!

Do you like to use post-it notes? 

*I love post it notes! But I would rather have a note pad that is bigger than just a little square. I like the long "list" post-its! They enable me to write more than one thing haha

Do you always smile for pictures?  I always smile for pictures when they are not being professionally done! When I pose with friends or in front of something, I am always grinning.

Do you ever count your steps when you walk? 

*I do count my steps when I walk sometimes actually! I also make sure I dont step on the cracks in the sidewalk when I think about it.

Do you ever dance even if theres no music playing?

I dance around my apartment ALL the time with my friends. We make our own music by singing our favorite song of the month! We have a song that we are obsessed with for a month and then we move on to the next one.

Do you chew your pens and pencils? 

I dont chew my pens and pencils but I used to. It was a nervous habit lol. I do however, click my pens like crazy!

Do you still watch cartoons?I actually just stopped watching cartoons less than a year ago. I used to watch Disney Channel every day.

What do you drink with dinner?  My favorite drink to have with dinner is sweet tea.

What do you dip a chicken nugget in? Chicken nuggets are my favorite food! Dipping them in honey is DELICIOUS! If you haven't tried it, you should.

When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper?

I can not remember the last time I wrote a letter to someone on paper. I have written letters of what I am thinking, but never actually give them to the person. (Hehem... ex boyfriends) haha!

Can you change the oil on a car? I have never changed the oil on a car. I have been showed how to check it though! Does that count?

Ran out of gas?  The only time I ran out of gas was while driving back to my school with my ex boyfriend, He was driving though! I always fill up if it hits the low fuel light.

Best thing to eat for breakfast? Breakfast is my favorite meal. What is best to eat? Probably eggs, toast, and milk. But my favorites are french toast, toast with jelly, and cereal.

What is your usual bedtime?My usual bedtime is about 11 or 12 PM. Doesnt get much later than that haha!

When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween? 

*When I was a kid, I always dressed up as a princess for Halloween. It was a different disney princess every year!

Which are better legos or lincoln logs?

Legos are better! I can remember playing with legos with my brother growing up and I always throught they were so cool how they magically fit together.

Are you stubborn? 

*I would definitely say I'm stubborn because if I know how I feel about something, there is no changing my mind.

*Deathly afraid of heights!

2. Do you like to use post-it notes? Absolutely. I use Post-It Notes every day to stay organized both at work and at home.

3. Would you rather be attacked by a big bear or a swarm of a bees?  I’d rather be attacked by a big bear, then I could practice using the shot gun my husband gave me for Christmas.

4. Do you have freckles? No.

5. Do you always smile for pictures? Yes. I am a happy-go-lucky person, so I am almost always smiling all the time.

6. What is your biggest pet peeve? Purchasing an item that is full price and finding out the next day it is ½ off.

7. Do you ever count your steps when you walk?  No, but as a former dancer I do find myself walking in step with others.

8. Do you ever dance even if theres no music playing? Not really, but when there is music playing – watch out!

9. Do you chew your pens and pencils? No. Too many people share pens in my office.

17. When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper?  It’s been so long, I can’t even remember, but when I send cards I always include a personal message.

18. Can you change the oil on a car? No. I choose to keep my friends in business at the Valvoline Instant Oil Change.

19. Ran out of gas? Almost. I was working in Ann Arbor and living in Toledo. One day I stopped to get gas on my way home from work (I only had ¼ tank) I realized I left my wallet at home – back in Toledo. I milked it the whole way home, and then back to the gas station.

20. Favorite kind of sandwich? Bojangles Cajun Filet Biscuit. (I had to give this up until after the pageant.)

21. Best thing to eat for breakfast? Egg whites with oatmeal and cinnamon.

22. What is your usual bedtime? With my early morning workouts, I am in bed by 10pm on most days.

23. When you were a kid, what did you dress up as for Halloween? My grandma made sure I had a great costume that I could wear layers underneath because it was always cold on trick-or-treat night. My favorites she made me where a clown suit and furry cat costumes. (The cat costume was gray just like one of my kitties.)

24. What is your Chinese astrological sign? The Ox, a wonderfully strong, tender and affectionate companion who is protective and always reliable.

25. How many languages can you speak? One, but I am working on my Spanish and Japanese.

Gently Worn Gowns Needed for Levine Children's Hospital Prom!!!!

This is less of a blog and more of a plea for any gently worn gowns. I have been working with Kayla Rose who works with Plitz Fashion Marketing in Charlotte. She is in charge of Charlotte Fashion Week. And she is also a big charity volunteer and organizer.

I had the privilege of meeting her and members of the BENCH group, a networking group who work together to organize and volunteer their professional expertise in order to raise money for charities around the Charlotte area. One of those charities is the Levine Children's Hospital.

We are currently organizing a "prom" called An Evening of Stars for the patients of Levine Children's Hospital between the ages of 13 and 18. Many of these children have had to miss their own school proms due to treatment for illnesses like cancer. We estimate the attendance to be upwards of 50 girls.

An Evening of Stars will be held on September 23rd at Founder's Hall in the Bank of America Building in Uptown Charlotte. We are also organizing a fashion show to be held early in August to raise money for the prom.

This is where all of you come in. WE NEED YOUR GENTLY WORN PAGEANT GOWNS! Many of the patients of Levine Children's Hospital come from families who do not have health care. They do not have the funds to go out and buy a new dress or gown. Wouldn't it be wonderful if our community of pageant girls would donate enough gowns for each one of these children?

I challenge you to call all of your friends, pageant sisters and directors and donate as many gowns as you can. You can contact me directly at cgregor3@gardner-webb.edu. to donate a gown. My Summer So Far!

On June 11th, my mother and I left for Baltimore, Maryland. We flew up and rented a car in which we drove ourselves to Washington, DC. We stayed the night in Washington where we shopped, ate, and saw the Capitol Building. The next morning, we got up and attended the "Now What?" Skit put on by CHADD. This skit was an informative comedy about ADD/ADHD symptoms, treatment, and other challenges. Patrick McKenna, Rick Green, and Dr. Umesh Jain were the stars of this wonderful play. Not only was this a comedy, but it also included the audience with games such as, "Are You Smarter Than an ADD'er?" While at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland, I got the chance to meet Russ Shipley, CHADD's Operations and Publishing Officer, and Marsha Bokman, CHADD's Director of Meetings and Events. I presented the money raised from mine and Chelsea's car wash to Russ Shipley personally. Russ kindly invited my mother and I to dinner with him and a few other directors after the show, but unfortunately we had a plane to catch!

On Monday, June 20th, I traveled to the Palmetto Children's Hospital in Columbia, SC with my sister queens, Chelsea Gregory and Elizabeth Malvasia. We owe a HUGE thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Palmetto Children's Hospital for letting us come and visit. Also, thanks to the parents for giving us a chance to interact with your kids! I would also like to thank Sharon Gregory, Chelsea's mom, for setting up this wonderful event for us and buying all of the supplies! We couldn't have done it without you Mrs. Gregory!

During our visit, we made arts and crafts with the children. We made foam crowns with the girls and paper shields with the boys. We had both patients in the hospital and children visiting patients come join the fun! Chelsea also read "When Donkeys Fly" to the children, which they really enjoyed! Chelsea, Elizabeth and I even got to visit a few personal rooms with children who were unable to leave their rooms. We also signed autograph cards for the kids to keep in their room as a keepsake along with their craft!

The Little Things Make it all Worth It

Today Elizabeth, Avery, and I visited the Palmetto Children's Hospital in Columbia! This experience was unreal. We were able to do a craft with the kids and make one very special girl smile for the first time in days. It's things like these that make this title completely worth it. We met with a group of kids and made crowns and shields with them! This was amazing because we got to really interact with the kids and make them feel special.

This is Julia! She was so precious :) I think we made her day. She is a REAL princess. She even has a Rapunzel doll with her in bed!

I also got to read "When Donkeys Fly" to some of the kids in the playroom. I hope they got something out of it because it is such an inspiring story. I know they were a bit restless because this was their time to get out of their rooms and play but I know they heard it!

Some ladies were ecstatic to see us! Haha

Overall this experience was inspiring to me because it gave me a fulfilling feeling to know that I made a kids day. I was able to make them smile. To know that they spend every day in that hospital and are so optimistic about the world is incredible to me. I tip my hat to those kids because they have so much spirit and life, it makes me appreciate what I have and want to go visit them every day.

Helping with the crowns! This was so amazing. I loved making them feel like royalty because to me, royalty means service to others. I tried to convey this message today because royalty is not about "me me me". When you are in a public position, it is your responsibility to serve others and represent something. In my case, I am representing not only the International Pageant System but I am representing children all across the United States. I want them to know that they are special and can do whatever they want to do, even be Miss America ;)

Mrs. North Carolina International's visit to Las Vegas and MIS

Visiting Las Vegas is always a whirlwind experience complete with jet lag. Last week, I was at the International Licensing Show which is filled with powerful brands you know and love growing up as well as those who are making their debuts on the big screen. The big win for myself and my co-workers from the Licensing Division of NASCAR came when we were announced as the “Best Sports Program of the Year” beating out our friends at NHL, PGA and ESPN who were also nominated. We are now part of the LIMA Hall of Fame! In true NASCAR fashion, once our trophy is engraved we will have a team photo taken with all of us holding up one finger – our own version of winner's circle.

While most of my time in Vegas was focused on work and meetings, I was able to promote The NASCAR Foundation to some new faces like Jill from the Real Housewives of New York and others who stopped by the NASCAR booth. Additionally, I was able to attend the Miss USA preliminary pageant with my friends Paula, Ann and Ryan from RPM Productions. All the ladies were stunning and very competitive. I am a big fan of Sherri Hill, so seeing all of her exquisite creations was a real treat for me.

After returning from Las Vegas, I was home for 12 hours and then back at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on my way to Detroit. I was quite busy with a number of objectives to check off my list including volunteering with The NASCAR Foundation. I really believe no matter what level you are in a corporation, you always have to stay in touch with your customer and volunteering with The NASCAR Foundation is the perfect way for me to accomplish this task while also helping thousands of children who need a champion. With so many fans milling around the Kid Zone, we were successful in raising over $5,000 over the weekend. Thank you to all my new friends I met at MIS!

Last night Sneads Ferry had their Shrimp Queen pageant! It was such a blast! All of the contestants were all so great! I'm honored that I was able to be apart of their wonderful night! After the pageant I had a lovely trip to the emergency room!!!! Everything is alright though, getting better! (:

Last weekend we had a BIG celebration of my mom, dad's, and cousin's birthday & going away party for her, she has left today to go into the Navy! Spending time with lots of family and friends you do not get to see much was great! Getting ready for that day, I had spent a few weeks working on a Survivor's picture album for my Mom. Which she is the purpose of my platform which is, "I Have The Answer, Let's Find A Cure For Cancer!" The album is filled with pictures from before she had cancer, pictures of her caregivers(me and my dad) with her in the hospital and pictures from now. She loved it! We all had such a great time!

Miss South Carolina International Guest Judge at the Fashion Democrazy Model Competition

This week has brought on some amazing opportunities. I met with Kayla Rose, who is involved with Plitz Fashion Marketing in Charlotte, NC. This group produces many charity events in the fashion community that not only benefits charities like the American Cancer Society, they also have been responsible for bringing Fashion Week to Charlotte, NC!

The week began with a lunch meeting with Kayla and the BENCH group. This group is a networking group that meets monthly to work on charity events. At that meeting I met various professionals in Charlotte in various industries. I was invited to help Kayla Rose produce a "Prom" for the Levine Children's Hospital in September. I am so very excited about this!

Then on Friday, I was a guest judge at the Fashion Democracy Model Competition. The show and competition was held at Center Stage in NoDa. The venue was small but very classy. I was surprised to see Dolce Lusso, my salon, there to do the model's hair and make up. Dolce Lusso will be doing my hair just before nationals.

The competition was voted on by the audience via a ballot. Then the top 10 contestants were voted on by our judging panel. The winner received over $3,500 in cash awards and will be modeling during Fashion Week Charlotte also in September.

Not only am I excited to get involved with this organization and all of the charity events that they work on, I am honored that they want me to help them and serve as an embassador and Miss SC International 2011. The opportunities to be visible in Charlotte will help me also spread the word about my platform, RE-Focus: ADHD Awareness.

I am continually amazed at how blessed I am to have this title and of all the opportunities that I have to meet people and make a difference. This was an appearance that I was not expecting and was greatful to be a part of. Now, I look forward to visiting the Palmetto Children's Hospital in Columbia on Monday. I have set up a story time and craft and am taking along Mrs. South Carolina International, Elizabeth Malvasia and Miss Teen South Carolina International, Avery Close. That should be a fun and inspiring appearance. I will be writing about it next week!!!

Opportunities Galore!

Wow! This title is opening an array of doors for me. I have had the joy of getting connected with Kayla Rose, who is the head of marketing for PLITZS Fashion Marketing. She is in charge of Charlotte Fashion Week and many other events! I attended a luncheon this morning with the BENCH group. Business Education Networking and Charities is a group of businessmen and women who share an interest in charities. They meet twice a month to network and come up with event ideas for any charity work they can do. I was able to get connected with so many amazing people!

Not only is Kayla a great resource, I was asked to help out with a "Prom" at Levine Childrens Hospital in September. We are going to have a fashion show for the patients to participate in! This is such an amazing event and I feel so privileged to have a hand in this event. I am so blessed to have all these new opportunities in my life!

As I approach my senior year in college, networking is crucial because I will be entering the working world and having contacts is an incredible privilege to have! Friday I will judge the Fashion Democracy competition so updates and pictures are soon to come!

Miss North Carolina Travels To Chicago for Media Training!

WOW I cant thank the lord enough for the blessings i have encountered just from becoming Miss North Carolina International! This past weekend I flew to Chicago for the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Spokesperson/ Media training at the RItz Carlton in Chicago! I got the opportunity to stay in one of the most amazing hotels in the United States and also got the privilege to be apart of the Media training!

I stayed in Chicago Thursday-Saturday to enjoy the Media Training! The training was a lifelong experience and i will carry with me the skills i learned from the training for a lifetime! We had great professionals train us! Although it was a little nerve racking to be speaking infront of dentists everyone was so supportive and confident in me!

Miss North Carolina International Travels to NYC to be introduced as New Ambassador for "Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children" Foundation of the AAPD

Memorial Day weekend was a weekend I will never forget! I got to travel to New York City to be introduced as the new Goodwill Ambassador for the "Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children" Foundation of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry! Talk about an experience of a lifetime! I stayed in the Marriott Marquees right in the middle of Times Square and taxied my way to the different events on my itinerary for the weekend! Saturday I made an appearance at the Exhibit for the "Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children" Foundation! Later that evening I went to the "Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children" Donor Appreciation Gala at the Harvard Club in New York City where i got to where 1.9 Karat Pearl and Pave' Diamond earrings to auction off for the Foundation! The earrings went for nearly $7,000! I was also featured in the "Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children" Program book as the New Goodwill Ambassador:

Brittney Clark is the reiging Miss North Carolina International 2011 and will compete in Chicago in July for the title of Miss International 2011. Brittney is studying to be a dental hygienist and is currently employed at the pediatric dental offices of Dr. William Chambers in Asheville, North Carolina. Brittney has chosen children's oral health as her platform, which she will promote nationally. As Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children's Goodwill Ambassador, Brittney will spread the word about the growing need for access to care and the giant steps Healthy Smiles, healthy Children is taking toward achieving that goal though our Access to care initiatives. Brittney will use as her mantra "Healthy Smiles for Every Child!" Please join us in welcoming Brittney as part of the Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children/AAPD Family!

Just that short paragraph meant so much to me it truly opened my eyes to realizing that i am truly making such a difference in children's lives!

On Sunday, I went to the American Academy of Pediatric dentistry Annual Session Meeting where i was once again introduced as the New goodwill Ambassador and got to speak with many dentists/ HSHC Donors! I truly met wonderful people who are willing to help support me not only on my journey to becoming Miss International but also supporting me to going on to Dental School if i chose to do so!!!!

Sunday Night was the President's Farewell Dinner this was at the Cipriani in New York City! It was one of the most beautiful venues i have ever stepped foot in! This was a black tie event, wonderful food, great venue, amazing music, and just overall a wonderful experience!

Richard Petty Driving Experience!

I started off the weekend right talking with all the race fans at the Spring All Star Experience! I am a promotional model for Sprint and this year was the first time i actually attended the race afterwards! It was amazing, the race fans are truly dedicated fans and some of the nicest people! I had an extra ticket and invited my sister Queen Miss South Carolina to accompany me! We had a blast as first timers!

What an experience The Richard Petty Driving Experience is! May 22 I got the amazing opportunity to ride along on the Charlotte Motor Speedway! Lets just say i didn’t think i was going to make it around the first turn going 150 mph! It was such a great experience!, like nothing i have ever done before! I was blessed to get to talk to some kids about their precious teeth, sign autographs along with giving floss away to customers who came by to see me!!! The Richard Petty Driving Experience is a great place to go with the family and enjoy the day out on the track!

Mrs. North Carolina Int'l appearing at the Licensing Int'l Expo in Las Vegas

I will be appearing at The Licensing International Expo this week at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. This show brings 21,000 attendees representing 91 countries, 400 exhibitors and over 5,000 of the most powerful brands in the world. I am juggling both a ‘hat and crown’ at this event in the NASCAR Booth #4460 and am looking forward to the opportunity to raise awareness for The NASCAR Foundation.

For those of you reading this who also travel frequently, you can relate that while travel is exciting, it can be even more rewarding when you can also spend a few moments with old friends. Thankfully, I get that chance. This Wednesday, my coworkers and I are planning a “team outing” by taking in the Miss USA Preliminary Pageant at Planet Hollywood. I look forward to catching up with Paula Miles from RPM Productions and all the great staff from the Miss Universe Pageant – Roston, Esther and Lark! While I may be the “resident pageant expert” (according to my coworkers) none of my peers have ever attended a pageant before – so this will be a great way for them to check this off their bucket list.

Dallas: Revealed

This past week I was in Dallas to take a PowerTalk class! It was so great! I got to stay with a friend of the family and discover the store "Charming Charlies". SO many cute things!!! I also got a tasty dinner and ice cream.. YUM! The class was awesome, I got to develop a speech that I will continue to give throughout the summer about ADHD. Once the whole class learned that I was Miss South Carolina they were all joking with me and calling me the pro. They were even asking me questions about the class since my mom teaches it as well! I chose not to take it from my mom though so I would benefit more from it.

I even got to meet a woman who has a daughter with ADD!!! It was amazing to talk to her and get to share my story with her. I told her I am working on changing the schools attitudes :) It is a bittersweet thing when you have to leave PowerTalk because you bond with the people in your class so much since you are with them for two days straight. All in all, I would say my trip to Dallas was a success!

Mrs. North Carolina International to visit Victory Junction Camp in Randleman, North Carolina

Mrs. North Carolina International 2011, Janet Bolin, will be one of the celebrities stopping by to visit.

“Visiting Victory Junction is magical, exciting and humbling,” stated Bolin. “Being a big kid myself, I thoroughly embrace every moment to help these children smile and enjoy their camping experience at Victory Junction.”

Miss South Carolina here, again! I am off to Dallas, TX for a powertalk class with Bergerac! I am so excited to take this class because it is going to help me millions with my speaking skills and in preparation for nationals, this time is crucial! I am currently sitting at the Charlotte airport waiting for my flight. The next two days will be a blast considering I love speaking and am a PR major! Well, I will let you know how the class goes!

Right time, right place

This past Saturday, I ventured to Conover, NC to cheer on my predecessor, the beautifully and talented Cynthia Griner in the Mrs. NC US Pageant. I also met up with a few friends who had been contestants in the Mrs. North Carolina/South Carolina International Pageant, Catherine Kyllingstad and Audrey Lorence. My husband was unable to attend as he was working hard in Kansas, so I was solo for the night - but not for long.

As soon as I walked through the door to the auditorium, I ran into the charity partner for the evening, Rising Hope Farms. I was unfamiliar with this charity, but thoroughly enjoyed getting to meet the energetic representatives, Rachel and Gail. I as it turns out, running into them was extremely beneficial.

As I sat back and enjoyed the show, I also was able to learn more about Rising Hope Farms as they were able to provide a video to explain in more detail their 501c3 charity, and share success stories of therapeutic riding, Hippotheraphy and more. While the stories brought tears to my eyes (and everyone else in the audience) to hear of all the great things this charity provides to children, it hit me why I ran into them.

The NASCAR Unites Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award Committee is looking for those with outstanding service in their racing communities helping children and families. Four (4) finalists will go to a Fan Vote. Winner will be announced in Las Vegas at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series banquet and their charity will receive $100k and they will receive a 2012 Ford Explorer. Runners up will get $25k each for their charities.

During intermission, I had the chance to talk with Rachel and Gail to share with them all the details of the NASCAR Unites project. They were surprised and thrilled with the chance to help more people, if honored with the award. Chelsea Rae Gregory, Miss SC International 2011 to Visit Palmetto Children's Hospital

Well, the next stop on the road to Miss International 2011 will be to visit the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital in Columbia, SC on June 20, 2011. The visit will include the reading of the book by Ginger Hodge, When Donkeys Fly. Once the book is read I, along with sister queens Avery Close, Miss South Carolina Teen International and Elizabeth Malvasia, Mrs. South Carolina International will host a craft party for the children. The craft party will consist of the girls making little crowns and the boys making family coats of arms. How royal is that??? We bought a kit so that the girls will have little gems to add to their crowns and the boys will have stickers for a shield they will make. We will have an hour!

The Palmetto Health Children's Hospital is the first children's hospital in South Carolina and one of the most state-of-the-art facilities around. Its a freestanding new hospital which combines compassionate medical care with comfortable family-centered spaces, age-appropriate play areas and therapeutic diversions to help reduce stress and encourage healing.

Their mascot, Richie Raccoon, has been there to welcome children from birth through adolescence since Children's Hospital was founded in 1983. Children's Hospital was created through the efforts of a group of 35 pediatricians and hospital leaders and community volunteers.

I look forward to reading the book, When Donkeys Fly not only because it is written by South Carolinian author, Ginger Hodge, but because of its message. The book is all about going after your dreams and not allowing people to tell you you can't do it. I feel like that is my story as I have struggled with a learning disability all of my life and yet was able to overcome my challenges and achieve my dream!

Avery Close and I both support CHADD, the organization that helps those with Attention Deficit Disorder. We both struggle with ADHD and are avid members and advocates for CHADD. The CHADD national conference in Orlando, Florida will also feature us in November as part of their speaker program.

Attention Deficit Disorder is the most commonly diagnosed neuro-developmental disorder in children. And half of those who possess ADHD, also possess other learning disaiblities from processing disorders to reading disabilities.

I am very excited about visiting the Children's Hospital and would like to thank Rachel Rentz for inviting me and my sister queens to make an impact on the children in their care! Will post pictures and write more when we return! Have a great week everyone!

My Special Appearance at
the Walmart Shareholders Meeting

I am very thankful for the opportunity to bring awareness to The NASCAR Foundation at the 2011 Walmart Shareholders Meeting this past week on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, AR. More than 4,000 Walmart Shareholders and Associates from around the globe descended upon little Fayetteville for a week filled with celebrities like Will Smith, Justin Beiber, Brad Keslowski and me, Mrs. North Carolina International 2011. I know I am not as popular as Will Smith and I don’t have great hair like Justin Beiber, but it was an exhilarating appearance which included quite a few ‘firsts’ for me as Mrs. North Carolina International.

Let me set the stage a little more for you. Envision hundreds of white tents, each tent housing a key supplier to Walmart stores, nationwide, and all 4,000 attendees visiting all of them in 4 hours. Yes, by the time they reached the “Automotive” section of this massive tent village, they were a little giddy, but so thrilled to meet me and Brad Keslowski, test their skills changing tires at the Mechanix Wear pit stop, get their picture taken with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series trophy, show car, play racing games and more. Most of them had never heard of The NASCAR Foundation or our NASCAR Unites arm bands, so I fully embraced the opportunity to talk with everyone.

Ok, back to my ‘firsts’…I met Beth from the Walmart Store #3729 in Sparks, Nevada who asked to trade pins with her, so I gladly traded my 2011 NASCAR Day pin for a really cool pin (shown here) which represents her store. No one had yet to ever ask me to trade pins with them, so I was thrilled and told her I'll have to come visit her store. Then, I met Ginny who was collecting autographs on her neon green t-shirt and wanted mine on it as well. This was a first. Most people are really excited about having me autograph a hero card for them or getting their picture taken with me, so autographing a t-shirt was a first! I was also able to meet new friends from the International Walmart stores from Puerto Rico, Nicaragua and Japan who all asked me to sign my hero cards to their store associates as they were going to proudly display my hero card in their stores! (More exposure for The NASCAR Foundation!)

While it was 90+ degrees, hot and humid, it was all worth it. Thank you to Dawn Mackey for coordinating my appearance and to all my new friends.

World-renowned dentist, Dr. Robert Lowe D.D.S, of Webber Dentistry in South Park (the official dentist of the Charlotte Bobcats and Ladycats) has named Elizabeth the official SMILE of his 2011-2012 ad campaign! Elizabeth will appear in numerous print and commercial ads for the highly celebrated dentist as well make personal appearances at events. Elizabeth is ecstatic to be working with such a well-respected dental expert and has described Dr Lowe as "a brilliant artist and man, with a kind heart and wonderful sense of humor".

Graduating

As I prepare for the Mrs. International competition, my trainer’s choice of words to motivate me includes the word “graduating.” He’s wonderful. My dedication and determination to my training program has resulted in me “graduating” to heavier weights. Love it! In just 3 short (and maybe slightly painful) weeks, I can feel how much stronger I have become. I believe numbers on a scale are only part of the picture and have always leaned more towards what I actually look like in the mirror and how my clothes fit. So, with 6 weeks to go until I depart for Chicago, I am thrilled with the results. Giving up Krispy Cream donuts, Pretzel M&M’s, Oreo cookies and my beloved white cheddar cheese from Ontario, Canada is well worth it! For those of you reading this, I challenge you to spice up your training program so you too can “graduate” with me.

You would never know looking at Miss South Carolina International 2011, Chelsea Gregory, or Miss South Carolina Teen International 2011, Avery Close, that either young lady is challenged by a learning disorder.

But they are.

Both Avery and Chelsea have a learning barrier called Attention Deficit Disorder and both girls are working very hard to raise awareness in the state of South Carolina and hopefully, on a national level if they win their national titles in July at the Miss International Pageant hosted in Chicago. Each girl has a unique story in how they have managed to overcome their disability in order to achieve their dreams and goals and are taking their story on the road to help as many people as they can.

Attention Deficit Disorder is the most commonly diagnosed neurodevelopmental disorder found in children. Half of all children with attention deficit disorder also suffer from additional learning disabilities. Many do not understand the disorder or what causes it. And for those who have it, that fact can be very frustrating.

“People can’t see the disorder and just think those of us with it are hyper or dumb. That is not the case. Many are extremely bright with very high IQ’s. We just learn differently and have issues that create obstacles which we must learn to work around,” says Chelsea, a senior communications major at Gardner Webb University.

The International Pageant System was created to showcase the accomplishments of young women. It has very high standards and those who compete must be of high moral character. Not only are these young ladies pretty, they are smart, ambitious and dedicated to a platform of their choosing. They are expected to make a difference in whatever platform they choose and dedicate many volunteer hours to their cause.

Chelsea and Avery have a lot in common. Both girls are from the Fort Mill area: Avery is a junior at Nation Ford High School; they are S.C. International state titleholders and both have had to overcome from ADD. That is why they decided to work together on the same platform and raise money for CHADD, the organization that supports people with attention deficit disorder.

The girls are national affiliates for CHADD and are dedicating their time to raising money to support that organization. They are also members of CHADD and have been invited to speak at the CHADD National Conference in Orlando, Fla., in November.

Two events the community can participate in are a car wash and bake sale this Saturday, May 28, across from the Peach Stand on Hwy. 160 West and July 10, when an “International Send Off Fund Raiser” will be held at the Anne Springs Close Greenway Dairy Barn. A silent auction and other donation opportunities will be available.

We love having our community support us. Later this month, on June 18th, we will be at a workshop for mental health and I will be the key note speaker. Then on June 20th, both sister queens Avery, Elizabeth and I will be traveling to Columbia, SC for a visit and princess party at the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital. I will be reading the book, "When Donkeys Fly" and then Avery, Elizabeth and I will be making crafts with the children. Crowns for the girls and Sheilds of Knighthood for the boys. It should be another rewarding appearance. Can't wait! Until then, keep a smile on your face!

Elizabeth Malvasia Gives Key-Note Address at Ronald McDonald House Grand Opening!

Mrs SC International 2011, Elizabeth Malvasia, and the "other" face of RMDH charities!

As the face of newly opened RMDH in Charlotte NC, Elizabeth Malvasia was selected to give the key-note address at their grand-opening, volunteer appreciation dinner. Among other things, Elizabeth was asked to speak on why volunteering was so important to her, and why Ronald McDonald House charities was her organization of choice. Sniffles could be heard among the 250+ attendants of the event while Elizabeth shared her story of hard work, determination, and ultimately success in her business and how that journey, combined with her believe that family and "home" is where one's heart and soul really resides drove her to not only find a way to give back, but to give back through Ronald McDonald House Charities specifically.

After giving her address, Elizabeth lead the volunteers and those in attendance at the event through the doors of the house for the very first time! Among the evening's highlights were seeing the HUNDREDS of books Elizabeth had raised filling shelf upon shelf in the house.

First time at a race and John Baransky and his entire family – 2 sisters, 3 brothers, mom and dad – visited Charlotte Motor Speedway in style. They met Kyle Busch, then I had the honor of guiding them through a garage tour including walking through the #18 race transporter, meeting Kyle’s crew members from Joe Gibbs Racing, get pictures with the #18 M&M’s Toyota and even helping him feel like the king of the world standing on top of the #18 pit cart on pit road amongst a sea of race fans who were very envious. All of this was made possible by a partnership with The NASCAR Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

A year ago, four-year-old John was fighting the battle of his life off the race track with leukemia. John’s wish was to meet Kyle Busch, but under one condition – he wanted to bring along all his brothers and sisters. NASCAR is a family sport and this type of wish is definitely one we wouldn’t even think twice about making come true.

John’s sisters were all decked out in Kyle Busch licensed apparel which they had received earlier in the week when they toured Joe Gibbs Race shop, but they were very enthralled with my crown and sash. I was more than happy to share my crown and sash with them. They are definitely future beauty queens!

It is very humbling and rewarding for me to be able to share the excitement of NASCAR, especially for those like John. I am thankful for all the volunteers who donate their time to help raise funds for children in need and for all of the generous fans who I met over the weekend while at The NASCAR Foundation display. CHADD Car Wash

Today, Chelsea Gregory, Miss South Carolina International, and I, Miss Teen South Carolina International, held a car was to raise money for CHADD (Children and Adults with ADD/ADHD). Chelsea's national platform is Learning Disabilities, while mine is solely focused on ADD/ADHD Awareness. Chelsea and I are both affected by ADHD. We decided to put together our efforts in order to raise money for this great organization. Our car wash was held across from the Peach Stand in Fort Mill, SC. We also had a bake sale and a donations bucket. All of the car washes were also for donations. Overall, we raised over $400! We had a phenomenal turnout and amazing results! We absolutely can not wait to present CHADD with the money we have raised. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us! Also a big thanks to all of our helpers and the Peach Stand for allowing us to make this day possible!

Chelsea and I will also be holding another fundraiser for CHADD this July. We are having a send off party before Chelsea and I are going to Chicago where we will be holding a silent auction. It's official! The janetbolinonline.com website has launched! I welcome everyone to visit this site to learn more about me and all my adventures as the spokesperson for The NASCAR Foundation. This site is a hub for links to The NASCAR Foundation, NASCAR Unites, the Mrs. North Carolina International 2011 page on Facebook, the Carolina International Pageant blog, the Mrs. International Pageant site, press releases, media coverage and more.

A big thank you to Joy Pfister for all her support and guidance in helping me with this project. Joy's competitive spirit is contageous and she is a wonderful director.

Mrs. North Carolina International To Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend
at Charlotte Motor Speedway

Since being crowned, Bolin has donated over 40 volunteer hours, traveled more than 4,000 miles and helped collect over $50,000 in donations thanks to the generosity of many NASCAR Fans.

PRLog (Press Release) – May 27, 2011 – Mrs. North Carolina International 2011, Janet Bolin, and her husband will be celebrating Memorial Day Weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Bolin, a spokeperson for The NASCAR Foundation will be providing garage tours for The NASCAR Foundation online charity auction winners from the McKinney Academy and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Bolin is also collecting donations for the NASCAR Unites arm bands at both The NASCAR Foundation display and the Fetha Styx display along the midway.

“The best part of my job is sharing the excitement of NASCAR with fans who may have never had a chance to get an up-close look inside the sport,” stated Bolin.

Racing is nothing new for Bolin. With a 15-year career in the sport marketing industry, Bolin has spent every major holiday at a race track – drag racing, oval or road course.

“My family has been very supportive of my career and understanding of my hectic schedule,” stated Bolin. “The best part of my world now is that I am able to spend holiday weekends with my husband as he too works in the sport.”

Bolin’s other half, her husband, is the head of engineering for Roush Fenway Racing. Many who know the couple see what a great team they make, always being there to support one another at all times.

“When we first started dating we were talking about how a great couple really is a “team” and that is when we were tagged as “Team Chip and Janet” tagline,” stated Bolin. “We even have our own ‘Team Chip and Janet’ logo designed by my mother who is a high school art teacher.”

Bolin has a mission to help raise awareness and donations for The NASCAR Foundation. During her reign, she will be working with The NASCAR Foundation and all their charity partners to collect donations in-person at NASCAR-sanctioned race events, community appearances and through social media.
